In retrospect, the story of IWM has three phases. The period 2009-15 saw several precursor events and the first Indian Women and Mathematics project. Then, during 2016-19, IWM was re-organized following suggestions by the National Board for Higher Mathematics and took its current form. In 2019 the project was renewed, its Executive Committee strengthened with new members, and the activities expanded.
